This Technical Project Management position has responsibilities to plan, coordinate, manage and execute a wide variety of tasks to equip various new CNC machine tools to utilize 5ME’s cryogenic through-spindle through-tool machining technology. Innovative technologies are continuously developed in-house and solutions are delivered to machine tool OEMs and customers.

5ME Technology Center Applications (All Cryogenically Enabled):

  • Okuma MU-5000VL 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center with Lathe Functionality
  • Doosan NHP-6300 4-Axis Horizontal Machining Center
  • Fives Cincinnati HPC-800XT 4-Axis Horizontal Machining Center
  • FFG Boehringer DUS 560 2-meter lathe (arriving the summer of 2018)
  • Additional machines coming
  • 60+ Unique Cutting Tool Designs including Indexable Face Mills, Hi-Feed Mills, Boring Tools, Turning Tools, Solid Carbide Mills,  Drills and Reamers
  • Workpiece materials including Titanium, Inconel, CGI, Stainless Steel, Hardened Steel, Stellite and other High Temp Exotic Alloys

The Job Entails:

  • Collaborating with other people on a routine basis to lead and participate in face-to-face meetings, web meetings, and teleconferences that are in-house, at machine tool OEMs and at customer sites
  • Creating and communicating project schedules and meeting minutes
  • Managing the scope, schedule and cost of customer and R&D projects
  • Working with Sales and Marketing to ensure proper up-front project definition and scope are adequately assessed
  • Leading and executing projects from kick-off to installation and start-up while adhering to the project schedule
  • Bringing new and different CNC machines into and out of the 5ME Tech Center including coordinating the necessary contract rigging and utilities
  • Directing and working with others, in the hands-on implementation of mechanical, electrical and PLC / HMI software elements to add cryogenic
  • machining technology to various OEM machine tools

  • Consulting with R&D Test Engineers, Machinists and customers to resolve project issues
  • Recommending continuous improvements in procedures, equipment and/or practices
  • Providing training to internal and customer personnel at the 5ME Tech Center, customer sites and trade shows
  • Keeping abreast of recent improvements in manufacturing technology and productivity
  • 20% overnight domestic and international travel possible, although generally a 5-day work week and home most nights

You will have:

  • A broad multi-disciplinary technological background
  • Knowledge and familiarity with various CNC machine types
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from executives and customers
  • Ability to write business correspondence, reports, operator manuals and technical documentation using scheduling / project management, spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, ERP (NetSuite), and email software
  • Ability to lead and work with others to solve technical and procedural problems, dealing with varied situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Background in mechanical, electrical hardware / software controls, and/or cryogenics a plus
  • A degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or similar discipline preferred
  • Five+ years of experience in a hands-on technical project management role with machine tool and cutting tool applications preferred
